Summary: | Originally published in French is January 1967, this important book has already attracted the attention of South Asian scholars, but not without criticism and controversy. The English edition, which is reviewed here, was published in the Fall of 1970, and according to the author it differs from the French version only in subtitles and appendixes. Instead of four appendixes that appeared at the end of the French text, there is only one (Caste, Racism, and 'Stratification') in the English version, leaving the three others (already available in English) to appear soon in a separate volume of "Collected Papers." |
