Description
Summary:High-velocity resistance training (HVRT) is an effective method to enhance physical performance in older adults. However, less is known regarding its benefits on cognitive function, namely on the reaction time. Thus, this study aimed to analyze the effects of HVRT on neuromuscular performance of institutionalized older adults, followed by an 8-week detraining period. At baseline, no significant differences between groups were found. After 8-weeks of training, significant improvements (p0.05) and for the relative HGT (p>0.05). The results demonstrated that the implementation of a resistance training with maximal execution velocities improved the neuromuscular and cognitive performance of institutionalized older adults. Moreover, it is noteworthy that most of the training-induced gains remained above the baseline values after 8-weeks of detraining.
