Description
Summary:An abstract of a study by Sandoval et al identifying the components of the Federal Wellness Policy mandate and describing the variability in component details depending on school district size is presented. Results show that preliminary data indicate that wellness policies are more likely to address reimbursable school meals as compared to nutrition education and nutrition guidelines for other foods/beverages sold/served outside the meal program. They conclude that school districts have the flexibility to develop the wellness policy as extensively as they choose as long as FW mandates are met. Due to this flexibility, the policy approaches will vary as will the impact on the school community.
