Summary: | Health organizations agree that breastfeeding is the best nutrition for infants, particularly during the first 4-6 months of life, but ideally for the first year, if not longer. In spite of breast milk's many benefits for both infant and mother, many infants are formula-fed, and thus the choice of formula becomes important. Currently, about 25% of formula-fed infants in the US are fed soy-based infant formula. In May 2008, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) revised its 10 year old position on the use of soy formula. Miles details the AAP's revision. |
