Summary:To oversimplify greatly: we can shake ourselves free of our national obsession with test scores in math and science and put some energy into figuring out how to deliver a full-bodied liberal arts education to all our children. The prominence of African Americans in the pantheon of heroes named by students and adults is demonstration enough that fundamental change is possible in schools and in society.
