Summary: | Colorectal cancer (CRC) is expected to cause over 50,000 deaths in 2018, making it the 3rd leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States. The cause of CRC is controlled by several factors, including environmental and genetic roles. Lynch syndrome (LS) is a genetic disorder increasing an individual’s risk for developing colorectal cancer by as much as 80%. LS is frequently underdiagnosed and most often found after a CRC diagnosis.
•Lynch syndrome (LS) is an autosomal genetic disorder that increases cancer risk.•Amsterdam II criteria and the PREMM predictive model are used to identify LS.•Colorectal cancer (CRC) risk increased up to 80%.•Endometrial cancer is the second most common cancer in LS.•CRC screening starts at age 20 to 25 years and is repeated every 1 to 2 years. |
