Description
Summary:Questions have been raised regarding the role of multinational enterprises (MNE) and the treatment of workers by many of these enterprises. This article endeavors to neither belabor nor belie the injustices that have occurred to workers around the world, but to present positive role models so that information can be shared and new mental models for global business practices can be developed. Instead of "pausing" from the normative dialogue, the purpose of this article is to bridge scholarship and practice in order to encourage connections between the growing conversation regarding the global corporate citizenship and the experiences of MNEs in the global workplace. The experience of two companies, Chiquita Brands International, Inc. and Levi Strauss & Company, situated in different industries, both with operations in Latin America, underscore the presence of common challenges that accompany the employment of international labor.
