Description
Summary:•A reconfiguration PSO algorithm with particle change rate control is proposed.•The IS-BPSO promotes a better exploration of the search space, finding the best solutions faster.•The IS-BPSO showed an improvement in convergence and reduction in the number of iterations.•Results show that the proposed algorithm is computationally efficient. This paper presents a new algorithm to solve the problem of reconfiguration of distribution networks using Improved Selective Binary Particle Swarm Optimization (IS-BPSO). The proposed method presents a new sigmoid function capable of promoting a control in the rate of change of the particles and improving the convergence of the results. The proposed algorithm aims to reduce power losses in distribution networks, it was applied in two energy distribution test systems, commonly found in the literature, the 33-Bus and 94-nodes systems. The results of the simulation show that the proposed method is very efficient and guarantees the achievement of the global optimum.
