Description
Summary:THE MAJOR CONTENTION OF THIS RESEARCH HAS BEEN THAT HERZBERG CAN BE REPLICATED WHEN CERTAIN KEY FACTORS IN THE EXPERIMENTAL PROCESS ARE HELD CONSTANT. IN THIS CASE IT WAS POSSIBLE TO OBTAIN STATISTICALLY SIMILAR RESULTS USING ORAL AND WRITTEN DATA COLLECTION TECHNIQUES AND THEREFORE DEFLATE SOMEWHAT THE CRITICISM OF METHOD DEPENDENCE. IT SEEMS CRUCIAL THAT RESEARCH IN THIS AREA BECOME INCREASINGLY AWARE OF THESE PITFALLS AND CONTROL FOR THEM, E.G. SUBJECTS AS THEIR OWN CONTROL. IN THE THREE FACTOR CASES WHERE THE ORAL AND WRITTEN DATA DID NOT MATCH, SIGNIFICANCE WAS OBTAINED BETWEEN HIGH AND LOW FREQUENCIES FOR THE FACTORS IN THE WRITTEN QUESTIONNAIRE ANALYSIS AND NOT IN THE ANALYSIS OF THE ORAL INTERVIEWS. THE FACTORS IN QUESTION, RECOGNITION, INTERPERSONAL RELATIONS-PEERS, AND INTERPERSONAL RELATIONS-SUPERIOR, ARE NOT SIGNIFICANT SIMPLY BECAUSE OF THE INCREASED RESPONSE BUT THE AVAILABILITY OF THESE ALTERNATIVES MAY HAVE HAD AN EFFECT. RECOGNITION WOULD SEEM TO BE AN IMPORTANT FACTOR IMPLICIT IN MOTIVATION.
