Summary: | In a reprint from the Summary of Proceedings: Fifty-third Annual Conference of the American theological Library Association, Papademetriou offers a historical overview of the Patriarchal Library located at the Phanar Istanbul Turkey, from the establishment of the capital of the Roman Empire in Constantinople to the present time. Among other things, he reviews how it has evolved, and the services it has provided and continues to provide. Furthermore, he indicates the status of the present collection and offers some recommendations, including a catalog system, CD-ROM for archival preservation, and the physical protections of the books, as well as an expansion into the rooms of the Patriarchal Press. |
