Summary:The assignment is introduced to the students before the semester begins, when I send them an e-mail welcoming them to the class, pointing them to our class Web site, listing the online readings that they are expected to do before the first class, naming the required books and suggesting purchase locations, and informing them of the first assignment, which requires them to compose a professional email.1 My first e-mail attempts to model the e-mail format I would like to see from students for the first assignment.
