dopamine polymerization is considered to inhibit the homogenous nucleation of ZIF-8 and slow down its heterogeneous nucleation, whilst the formed polydopamine facilitates the counter-diffusion growth of the ZIF-8 layer and patches the possible defects simultaneously.
