There are a variety of translation methods that, once adopted, provide principles that help determine for the translator how to deal with a particular word or phrase.2 If there is a guiding principle, however, behind the decisions of the translators of KJN of when to translate literally and when freely, it does not appear to be either readability or accuracy.
