Summary:Education is currently a hot-button topic in all fields, as students, faculty, and graduates express concern about the ability of academia to properly prepare graduates for the workplace. Accounting is no exception, and this education-focused issue analyzes the pros and cons of the current system. In this article, the author provides a strong criticism of the state of accounting education, identifying weak points in faculty management and administration, the research process, and the standards of PhD and accreditation programs. A counterpoint on these issues is presented in the following article.
