Summary: | Educational preparation is important to the success of the individual case manager and the survival of this new role in the health care system. The authors of this article present the current consensus information about core areas of knowledge needed by the nurse case manager for basic, intermediate, and advanced levels. Certification also is examined and recommended as further evidence of competence in the case manager role, with information about several types of certification presented. Finally, several educational programs are identified that prepare nurses for existing and evolving case management roles. |
