"Adonais" and the Death of Poetry

Percy Shelley's "Adonais" has been called a "metaphysical defence of suicide," and often the poem's apocalyptic scorn of meditation is stressed. The poem is examined for its turn deathward in the light of its concomitant turn to the past.
