Gender Ideology and Black Women as Community-Builders in Ontario, 1850–70
The possibilities for developing a collective history of black women in Canada is explored, with a focus on southern Ontario in the mid-19th century. The experiences of black Canadian women as community-builders challenged simplistic notions of womanhood.
