Summary:Brujavanol E ( 1 ), a new quassinoid derivative, along with four known quassinoids ( 2 – 5 ), were isolated from the leaves of Brucea javanica. The chemical structure was elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis. Compound 1 showed significant antimalarial activity (against Plasmodium falciparum strain K1) and cytotoxicity activity against human oral epidermoid carcinoma cancer (KB) and human breast cancer (MCF-7) cell lines with IC 50 values 5.54, 2.16, and 1.52 μM, respectively.
