Summary: | Gash and Reardon (1988) present a plea for the development of communication and other transferable skills in students in information science. The evidence on which Gash and Reardon base their remedial analysis is criticized. Their comments are based on secondhand and general criticisms. It is suggested that they seek firsthand knowledge of the difficulties complained of and seek contact with those making the complaints. Other possible causes for the complaints are poor management and prejudice. Suggestions are made to solve the problem of poor management. Approval is given to their approach of devising exercises and situations through which students could learn to become critical of their own performances. |
