Summary:The relationship between food security and the family economy - for obvious reasons associated with family farming in rural areas - has been poorly studied in Ecuador. This research focused on establishing the relationship between food security and family economy/agriculture in the rural area of Santo Domingo de los Colorados ​​canton, in Ecuador. Empirical evidence and information that can be used both to continue confronting the problem and to facilitate the application of social protection policies in the rural territories with impact on the achievement of food and nutrition security in Ecuador is described here.
