Summary: | This article deals with the concept and use of a self-draining system operating on the basis of natural convection. The so-called natural circulation facility is planned to be used as a decay heat removal device during nuclear reactor shutdown. An important problem with this kind of device is presented in the article. Leakages, inevitably occurring during operation of such a device with helium are very dangerous and prevent the use of the device from application in a real nuclear power station. A real scale experimental device was built to test the real application of the idea of cooling with natural convection. Several experiments have been made and this article focuses on the measured leakages, which are then analyzed. Some basic conclusions are made, but also some goals are set to solve in the future. |
