Summary: | H. Allen Swanson, recipient of the Burton W. Marsh Distinguished Service Award, wants to recognize the international influences on his personal life and on their collective lives. From life as a wee tyke to the golden years, people are shaped, fed, entertained and use consumer goods from a kaleidoscope of countries. His path in life has been based on customs and culture in Canada and the US, which has given him an interest in international affairs. This is why his focus as ITE international president was to broaden the international scope of ITE. The industry should also recognize that many techniques, tools, road designs and products have come from overseas. This is not meant to be an exhaustive enumeration of the worldwide contributions to North America's mobility due to previous experiences in other countries overseas. This is just a thumbnail sketch of the global transportation practices and products that have improved quality of life. |
