Description
Summary:When the Pacific Electric Red Car system was built 100 years ago, it established stations at many locations in Los Angeles and Orange Counties in California. Near each station, a small community developed. Soon these communities became independent, functioning cities. After World War II, these cities grew and expanded. Since the 1969 ITE Annual Meeting in Los Angeles, these suburb cities have expanded to the point where there is virtually no undeveloped land between cities, except in rugged hillside areas. Anaheim, CA, the host city for the ITE 2008 Annual Meeting and Exhibit, first was settled by German farmers in 1857 near the Santa Ana River. Today, Anaheim is the second-largest city in Orange County, with a population of 330,000. The ITE 2008 Annual Meeting and Exhibit in Anaheim will be an opportunity to stay abreast of the transportation state of the art and learn about one of the US' most interesting metropolitan areas.
