Efficient Synthesis of 1,10-Phenantroline-5,6-dione

A method for the synthesis of 1,10-phenanthroline-5,6-dione via oxidation of 1,10-phenanthroline in the Br 2 -H 2 SO 4 -HNO 3 system has been elaborated.
