Description
Summary:In an earlier volume of this Journal, Kneuper and Yandle (1994) proffer that auto insurers lobbied extensively for the automotive airbag, expecting to trade increased dollar property damage claims for lower bodily injury claims. Using annual data published by the Highway Loss Data Institute, this article finds that, upon airbag adoption, not only do average collision loss payments increase, but so do the relative frequencies of collision claims and injury claims for a vehicle line.
