Anti-Cancer Activity of Aloe Vera Ethanolic Leaves Extract against In vitro Cancer Cells

The anticancer activities of the ethanolic leaves extract of A.vera were investigated using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazole-2yl)-2,5diphenyl tetrazolium bromide assay on three human cancer cell lines HepG2 (liver cancer), HeLa (human cervical carcinoma cell line) and A549 (human lung adenocarcinoma epitheli...

Description
Summary:The anticancer activities of the ethanolic leaves extract of A.vera were investigated using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazole-2yl)-2,5diphenyl tetrazolium bromide assay on three human cancer cell lines HepG2 (liver cancer), HeLa (human cervical carcinoma cell line) and A549 (human lung adenocarcinoma epithelial cell line). In anticancer studies, A.vera ethanolic leaves extract showed potent proliferation inhibitory activity against HepG2, HeLa and A549 cell lines. [...]new prototype-new templates should be in need for designing any potential chemotherapeutic agents where natural products are providing as such new templates5. [...]this plant possesses such a great variety of scientifically-proven active pharmaceutical ingredients (about 200) with unique combination properties, generate a broad spectrum of activity13. Human lung adenocarcinoma epithelial cell (A549), human liver cancer cells (HEpG-2) and human cervical carcinoma cell (HeLa) were cultured in Rosewell park memorial institute 1640 medium (RPMI1640) and Dulbecco's modified eagle's medium (DMEM) supplemented with 10% calf serum, penicillin (100 IU/mL) and streptomycin (100 pg/mL) and incubated in humidified atmosphere of 5% CO2 and 37°C. The culture medium was changed every two days.
