Summary: | The 'Brighton School of Practical Medicine and Surgery' was founded in 1834 at the Sussex County Hospital (SCH). Little has been published about this early provincial school despite being formally approved by the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS) until at least 1933. What is more, recognition by the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries appears never to have been rescinded. This note presents three candidates befitting the title of the first Brighton medical student. |
