Summary: | The Human Resources Subject Records Center, which provides records management services to the Human Resources Group of Boise Cascade Corp., automated its record index using the BASIS Data Management System. The decision to automate the file outline was motivated by the amount of time required to update the outline, which was an error-prone process. BASIS was selected because it met the criteria of being user-friendly, flexible, and cost-effective. Information from the file outline was transported from the word processing department's program onto the BASIS software, and several enhancements were developed to meet the Center's needs. Problems encountered with automating the system included initial resistance from some individuals who were comfortable with the old system and cleaning up data after they had been transported from word processing to BASIS. |
