Summary: | The development of modern tank farms for oil storage in the Far North requires taking into account both climatic features of the Arctic region and local geotechnical conditions. Obviously, the possibility to provide tank stability, its trouble-free operation during the service life is significantly determined by a correctly selected foundation design and its construction technology. However, the existing calculation methods of tank foundations do not take into account a specific character of bedding in local geological formations used for a foundation construction. Models of «Foundation — a vertical oil storage tank» system, based on Gibbs- Roseboom method, allowing us to predict characteristics of physical and mechanical properties of dispersed noncohesive soils are developed to solve this problem. Proposed models describe the influence of three independent factors such as the effect of dispersed noncohesive soil fractions on characteristics of its physical and mechanical properties. Based on laboratory studies the possibility to use the proposed models for characteristics calculation of the foundation depending on its fractional composition is analyzed. A relative error of calculation for foundation characteristics values made by means of the developed models does not exceed 13.6 % for physical properties, and 2.6 % for mechanical properties. The proposed models with a sufficient precision for practical purposes allow us to search and calculate the necessary soil composition with required construction properties for the foundation construction of a vertical steel tank taking into consideration both design features of the tank and specific character of bedding in local geological formations. |
