Summary: | This paper presents a case study of a longitudinal, embedded consulting and coaching engagement at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center (the name of the client organization is used with permission throughout this paper), a top ranked U.S. academic health center, and provides an overview of a set of key conceptual issues involved in creating and delivering such services. These include the knowledge, abilities, skills, experiences/expertise, and personal characteristics of clients and consultants; moral reasoning and ethics; assuming the role of shadow CEO; and anchoring this case in the literature on consultation.
