Description
Summary:A comparative study was conducted in 1993 of the quality management procedures adopted in the UK in 6 general hospitals within what was then the South East Thames Regional Health Authority. The aims of the study were to: 1. examine the different approaches or methods of quality management in these hospitals, 2. establish to what extent the imaging department was involved in quality management and to check if it was part of the overall quality plan of the hospital, and 3. see if a multidisciplinary approach involving all staff - such as total quality management - was being encouraged. All hospitals replied that the imaging department was part of the overall quality management system, although the extent appeared to vary. All hospitals said they had involved the workforce in the quality management process. The hospitals generally perceived the benefits of successful quality management as increased patient and staff satisfaction, along with the opportunity to demonstrate to purchasers the ability to provide a quality service.
