Description
Summary:To reduce the current recidivism rate of 28.4% for the United States prison population of 450,000, the implementation of a relevant, comprehensive vocational and career readiness program is necessary. Career readiness programs provide inmates with current job-securing skills. Researchers have found that businesses recommend such programs, and inmates who participate in them obtain jobs more quickly and maintain jobs more securely than non-participants. Components of the career readiness package address areas related to social skills, job acquisition skills, work performance skills, and basic day-to-day "survival" skills. Redirected and revised curriculum for vocational training programs may be the answer to recidivism reduction and society's economic concerns regarding Correctional Institutions in the United States.
