Description
Summary:Conventional thought holds there cannot and should not be a sharing of key accounting information with labor. This school, with considerable justification, views the negotiations process as adversarial. Others believe the sharing of accounting information will improve labor-management cooperation, create an atmosphere of more realistic bargaining, and enhance corporate profitability. Researchers at the Northeast Ohio Center for Labor-Management Cooperation conducted a 5-year study to test the belief that accounting data can be used to bring about speedier, more harmonious, and lower-cost labor management negotiations, leading to a more productive and profitable work environment. The results suggest that the accounting profession, in conjunction with labor-management experts, should turn its attention to the specific kinds of financial reports that should be prepared and the specific kinds of data the reports should contain.
