Summary: | THE EXPERIENCED MANAGER REALIZES THAT THE COMPUTER SYSTEM IS ONLY A TOOL FOR MAKING DECISIONS. IT IS NOT A DECISION-MAKING TOOL. THERE ARE TWO APPROACHES TO USER CONTROL. THE FIRST OF THESE BEGINS IN DATA-PROCESSING AND UTILIZES A REPORT QUESTIONNAIRE. WHILE NOT DIRECTLY RELATED TO CONTROL FUNCTIONS, IT DOES ATTEMPT TO DETERMINE IF THE REPORT IS USED BY DEPARTMENT MANAGEMENT AND IS USEABLE IN ITS PRESENT FORM. THE SECOND APPROACH IS THE EDP USER QUESTIONNAIRE, WHICH IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO CONTROLS AS THE USER SEES THEM. IT IS A METHOD USED BY THE DATA-PROCESSING DEPARTMENT FOR DETERMINING THE USER'S KNOWLEDGE OF HOW HIS DEPARTMENT'S DATA IS HANDLED AND PROCESSED IN DATA PROCESSING. THE QUESTIONNAIRE IS COMPLETED BY AN INTERVIEWER FROM THE DATA PROCESSING DEPARTMENT, AND THE QUESTIONS ARE HANDLED BY DISCUSSION AND BY OBSERVATION. BOTH QUESTIONNAIRES SUPPLEMENT THE REVIEW OF INTERNAL CONTROL IN THE DATA-PROCESSING OPERATION ITSELF. EXHIBITS. |
