Summary: | A discussion of Concepts: Where Cognitive Science Went Wrong by Jerry A. Fodor and Sorting Things Out: Classification and Its Consequences by Geoffrey C. Bowker and Leigh Star is presented. Vosniadou, Pagondiotis, and Deliyianni argue that Bowker and Star have succeeded in showing that classification systems are ubiquitous and have a material force that can affect people's lives but that they have failed to persuade them that categories are conventions that arise solely from situated experience. |
