Summary:Although the major clinical use of ambulatory Holter monitoring is for the detection of transient cardiac rhythm and conduction disturbances, the main interest of Norman Holter was the detection of transient myocardial ischemic episodes. Nair et al prospectively studied 145 patients aged over 75 years with chest pain referred for coronary angiography; 24-hour ambulatory Holter monitoring was performed within 72 hours of coronary angiography and compared with 132 similar patients.
