Summary: | There has been controversy in the literature about the relationship of culture with emotional well-being for adolescents who are American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN). This article provides a careful summary and literature review of related studies. A key finding was that a sense of connection to culture was correlated with emotional well-being for adolescents who are AI/AN, whereas participation in cultural activities was associated with more mixed results. This review demonstrates that culture can be operationalized into different components and measured in studies with adolescents who are AI/AN. |
