Summary: | In the present paper the possibility of butt friction stir welding of technically pure titanium by a tool from heat-resistant nickel alloy of ZhS6U is investigated. The quality of welded joints is investigated. Metallographic researches were carried out to study the structure of joints. Mechanical tensile tests were carried out to study the strength properties of the joints. The researches have shown good applicability of ZhS6U alloy for welding of technically pure titanium. In particular, the failure of the weld was caused by the basic material even in the presence of defects. The tool withstood thermal and dynamic loads without fracture. The increase of axial force resulted in elimination of defects such as discontinuity and improvement of weld quality. |
