Description
Summary:The encouraging press releases emerging from these prospects attracted the attention of Prof. W. E. Hopper at the Michigan College of Mines (now Michigan Technological University), who collected his own samples for assay but found only galena and small amounts of pyrite and chalcopyrite and no vanadium (Fountain 1992). It is likely that the property was also evaluated for its graphite content, as a small graphitic slate deposit about 37 kilometers to the southwest was briefly mined for pigment by the Detroit Graphite Paint Company (Dorr and Eschman 1977).\n However, the occurrence also bears considerable similarity to the geologic setting of Athabasca-type unconformity uranium deposits, the genetic model for which fits well for the Huron River prospect (Guilbert and Park Jr. 1975).
