Lightning frequency as a sign of cloud ice content

Lightning frequency is now readily measured, thanks to a series of recently developed satellite-borne instruments. The study of the relationship between lightning frequency and thundercloud ice crystal content, a parameter important in climate modeling and global warming, is noted.
