High Historicism and Narrative Restoration: The Seamless Interior of Adalbert Stifter's Nachsommer

The parallels of Adalbert Stifter's novel "Der Nachsommer" to the aesthetic restoration of the mid-19th century are discussed. It is argued that "Der Nachsommer" voices the sense of loss felt at the time and constitutes an anxious attempt to overcome it.
