Summary: | Introduction: Plants play a significant role in maintaining human health and enhancing the quality of life since long and have been beneficial to human because of their potential uses as alternative remedies for the treatment of many infectious diseases and also served as valuable components of medicine, seasonings, beverages, cosmetics, and dyes [1]. The objective of the present study was to assess the free radical scavenging activities Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP), 2,2-diphenyl-1- picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2'-azino-bis(3ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS) assay identifying the phytochemicals present in the methanolic, acetone, petroleum ether, water extract of Colocasia esculenta leaves by qualitative analysis. ABTS'+ cation radical was produced by the reaction between 7 mM ABTS in water and 2.45 mM potassium persulfate (1:1), stored in the dark at room temperature for 12-16 h before use. [...]it is a decolorization assay; thus the radical cation is pre-formed prior to addition of antioxidant test systems. |
