Description
Summary:Ninety male subjects took part in a game playing experiment utilizing a Maximizing Differences matrix. The subjects were randomly assigned to one of three experimental conditions. One-third of the subjects played a fair game with their partner, one-third played against highly cooperative random strategies, and the final third were subjected to a delayed matching strategy in which they received the choice that they had made on the previous trial. The results indicated that the subjects who played against the delayed matching strategy were more cooperative at the .10 level of significance. The subjects who played against the delayed matching strategy formed significantly more favorable impressions of their "partner" and, in addition, perceived their partners as possessing, to a significantly greater degree, the same type of personality traits that they attributed to themselves.
