Summary: | This paper discusses the use and potential misuse of contingent value and conjoint surveys to estimate stigma damages. It describes the many similarities between natural resource damages surveys and stigma surveys. The origins of both CV and conjoint techniques reveal that neither technique was originally designed for litigation. Of particular importance is incorporating reliability tests based on economic principles. The information presented to survey respondents must be neutral and factually correct to ensure reliable results. |
