Summary:[...]it was not until the turn of the millennium that studies about skating began to develop, enabling, years later, the emergence of the first doctoral theses on this subject in the country. At first with more focused research in the field of Physical Education, these evolved into other fields, such as Sociology, Anthropology, Leisure Studies and Sports History. Nos Estados Unidos da América, por exemplo, país que deu origem a essa prática, um estudo divulgado pela National Sporting Goods Association (NSGA)3 apontou que houve um aumento de 74% no número de praticantes de skate do ano 1998 para o ano 2007. Intitulada: "Aventura e risco no skateboard street: um estudo do imaginário de jovens skatistas", essa dissertaçâo buscou demonstrar como as noçöes de aventura e risco apareciam no imaginário social de um grupo de skatistas residentes no Rio de Janeiro.
