Description
Summary:— The Schiff base, 3-(2-(2-hydroxybenzylidene)hydrazinyl)quinoxalin-2(1H)-one has been synthesized by condensation of 3-hydrazinyl quinoxalin-2(1H)-one and salicylaldehyde and characterized by infrared and ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy, 1 H NMR, mass spectrometry, elemental analysis, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic system in the space group P 2 1 / n with the unit cell parameters a = 5.8619(15) Å, b = 24.119(6) Å, c = 12.753(4) Å, β = 100.184(9)°, Z = 4. The crystal structure is found to be stabilized through inter-molecular hydrogen bonds. The interaction of the compound with Calf Thymus DNA was investigated by ultraviolet spectroscopy, which indicated intercalative mode of binding.
