Summary: | This paper reports a diamagnetic levitation thermometer using a pyrolytic graphite (PG). The levitation height of diamagnetic materials depends on the temperature. The system is composed of a PG disc, permanent magnet for driving, non‐contact laser displacement meter, and spot heater. We evaluated the height in air and vacuum changing the temperature of the PG disc, and the disc changes its height as to be −1.49 and 1.55 µm/°C in air and vacuum, respectively. Differential thermal analysis of polystyrene is demonstrated. The potential of the diamagnetic levitation as a new principle measuring temperature changes is indicated. © 2020 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. Published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc. |
