Summary:Given these contrasting policy platforms, we investigated two questions: Did market assessments of the political risks to carbon-intensive and alternatively-sourced energy industries reflect the candidates’ policies? How have firms responded to these risks in terms of their investments via political contributions? Exploring these questions in the extreme electoral climate of 2016 adds to our understanding of how election uncertainty and contributions impact firms.
