Summary:[...]there has been a continuous call by professionals and governments alike to plant trees or establish planted forests in order to address the huge demand of goods and services by both rural and urban communities. [...]the goal of sustainable forest management has received considerable attention recently in international negotiations. Planted forests provide not only wood, fibre and fuel, but also other non-wood forest products. [...]they sequester carbon, rehabilitate degraded lands, help in restoring landscapes, protect watersheds and agricultural soils, and provide recreational areas and amenities. A high level of seed dormancy is a characteristic feature of many plants of dry regions, and it either completely prevents germination or allows very few seeds to germinate over a long period of time. [...]to obtain rapid, uniform and high germination, the dormancy imposed by the hard seed coat should be removed.
