Summary: | The sorption activity of ethylcellulose–bentonite composites toward methylene blue has been studied. It has been determined that the degree of recovery of the dye with the composites increases by a factor of 2.5 as compared to unmodified polymer along with a significant decrease in the equilibrium time. Quantitative characteristics of sorption, such as modulus, filler content in composite, and initial concentration of dye in solution, have been determined under various conditions. It has been determined that the kinetics of the sorption process is described by the pseudo-first-order equation, while the isotherm fulfills the Langmuir law. Using IR spectroscopy, hydrogen-bond formation between oxygen-containing groups of the composite and heteroatoms of the dye has been shown. |
